In the World Wine Awards 2012 issue of Decanter, this was said about Tasmania
“What should we keep an eye on” Tasmania may only have 1,400 hectares under vine-only 0.5% of the Australian total-but this year this island state punched well above its weight, winning gold medals for Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, as well as Regional Trophies for Chardonnay and a rosé sparkling.
These varieties thrive in the cool growing conditions, producing wines with wonderful aroma and flavour intensity coupled with great acidity and freshness, With it’s cool climate, physical beauty and pure green credentials, Tassie is coming of age”
A special mention for Jansz Rosé, Premium NV Cuvée, Pipers River, Tasmania which won the regional trophy for Best in Show Sparkling over 10 pounds.
Other sparkling award winners ….Arras, Clover Hill, and Jansz scooped a few more. The full list of Tasmanian awards are here.
